“In the Name of Mother, in the Last Name of Father” is Kracunovic’s first institutional solo show. It examines omnipresent systematic fatherhood and the precious single mother–single daughter relationship through poetry, tears, lipsticks, distances, and the potential to shift gravitation.
The operation consists of several works, including the video piece “The Bride,” which documents two simultaneous marriage processes and ceremonies in Serbia and Germany. Investigating the issue of the last name as a sole inheritance from the artist’s biological father as well as a tool to locate and a means to belong, the work includes conversations with the artist’s mother and grandmother, presented through interviews and spontaneous chats in everyday situations.
“In Your Name” is a performance by the artist and her mother, in which two brides perform letters exchanged over the past year. The work addresses intergenerational female solidarity and rescue using red lipsticks to write their novel.
The implementation of the research is kindly suppoted by the Creative Europe - Individual Mobility Fund (EU and Goethe-Institute Brussels)
