Remember me. Remember my tongue stuck between my teeth. Remember the cold weapons entering my bones. Remember him telling me I won’t walk again. Remember the urge to live in her eyes. Remember their pain. The hump on her spine that bends her lungs. The numb legs that walk your countries. Our cramped bodies holding onto metal devices so we do not fall. Remember our walking sticks drawing full stops on your streets.

Sometimes we cannot see you, but we know. We cannot hear you, but we see. We fail to talk about the pain, but we write. Remember that. Because we won’t heal—not the way you want us to.

We will mutate. We will outgrow the definitions and prognoses you gave us. We will remain a sculpture surrounded by trees. And we will come for you—not as a threat, but as an organic continuation of this experience.

You will remember all of us. Because we—the mutants, migrants, sick girls, with our deteriorating bodies—will come for you. In its own way—this way, or another.

Sooner or later, we will all be disabled—if we aren’t already.
